For restaurant and bar bills, yes. Splitwise keeps a running ledger of who owes whom across a group over time, and everyone in the group uses the app. The Bill Split does one thing: it reads the receipt from a photo, lets you tap who had what — shared dishes, GST and service charge included — and gives you one link. Friends open it in their browser, see their exact share and pay on UPI, without installing or signing up for anything. For an ongoing ledger, like rent or a long trip, a ledger app fits better; for tonight’s dinner bill, use The Bill Split.

No. The Bill Split runs in the browser on any phone or computer. If you use it often you can add it to your home screen, but nothing has to be installed.

No. Only the person splitting the bill signs in, with Google or an email address. Friends just open the link, see their share and pay — no sign-up and no install.

Yes. Any single bill with line items works — bar tabs, café orders, groceries. It is built for one bill at a time, not for keeping a running balance over months.

Amounts are in rupees and settling up uses UPI, so it is designed for bills in India. Passes are paid for by UPI or card through Razorpay.

Take a photo of the bill, or choose one from your phone, and the AI reads the items, quantities, amounts, restaurant name and date. You review the lines and fix anything before you split. One scan reads one receipt photo.

Every line is editable. Change a name, price or quantity, remove a line, or add one by hand before you split.

Tap everyone who had it. By default they share it equally. If someone had more or less, give them more or fewer parts — for example 1.5 and 0.5 — and each person pays in proportion to their parts.

Proportionally. Each person’s share of the tax, service charge or discount matches what they ordered, so nobody overpays for someone else’s order.

No. Scans are only used when the AI reads a receipt photo. Splitting a bill by hand — typing the items yourself — is unlimited while you hold an active pass.

Yes. Add everyone who paid and how much each put in, and we work out who owes whom.

Yes. Scan or attach several receipts into a single split — there is no need to start a new bill for each one.

Up to 60. You can also make groups within a bill — a couple, a family — and assign an item to the whole group in one tap.

Add your UPI ID to the bill and each friend gets a pay button that opens their own UPI app with your ID and the exact amount already filled in.

No. Friends pay each other directly from their own UPI apps. The Bill Split never holds or moves money, and you do not link a bank account — it only does the maths.

Your dashboard shows how much you are owed across all your bills. Open a bill and tick people off as they pay you back.

Yes. Open the bill, tap Edit, make your changes and finalize again. The share link stays the same, and friends keep seeing the last finalized version until you do.

You buy a pass for the occasion — there is no subscription. One dinner: 24 hours with 3 AI scans for ₹15. A weekend away: 3 days with 6 AI scans for ₹29. A month of going out: 30 days with 20 AI scans for ₹79. Every pass includes unlimited manual splits. New accounts start with a free 24-hour pass and 3 AI scans to try it first.

No. A pass is a one-time payment and simply ends on its date. Nothing is charged again unless you buy another pass.

Add a top-up to your pass — 20 scans for ₹49. Top-up scans never expire and can be used whenever a pass is active. You can also carry on by adding items by hand.

Your bills stay in your account and every share link keeps working, so friends can still see and pay their share. You need an active pass to start a new bill or edit one. Scans that came with the pass end with it; top-up scans are kept for your next pass.

Passes and top-ups are non-refundable — they’re digital and delivered instantly. The only exception is a genuine billing error, like being charged twice: email support@thebillsplit.com with your payment reference and we’ll check it and refund any verified duplicate charge. Your bills are private to your account. When you finalize a bill you get a share link, and anyone with that link can view that bill’s split and receipt — so only share it with the people involved.

It is sent to a third-party AI service (Google) only to read the line items, and it stays attached to your bill so the table can check the split against the original. Delete the bill and its photo is removed with it.

Yes. You can delete any bill, which also removes its share link, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing support@thebillsplit.com.
